Phillies extend Mackanin through 2017

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Phillies clearly like what they have seen from manager Pete Mackanin this spring.

The club announced Friday that it has agreed to a two-year deal with Mackanin which carries him through the 2017 season. The contract includes a club option for '18.

Mackanin, who replaced Ryne Sandberg last June, had been signed through the end of this season.
