Phillies expand roster, give underperforming Aaron Altherr a chance at redemption

Altherr was among six players added to the Phillies' roster on Saturday, the first opportunity for teams to expand beyond the standard 25 players. Altherr, reliever Yacksel Rios and outfielder Dylan Cozens were called up from triple-A Lehigh Valley, while relievers Austin Davis and Edubray Ramos and utility infielder Pedro Florimon were reinstated from the disabled list.

The Phillies still expect to make other additions, including righthander Jerad Eickhoff, catcher Andrew Knapp and infielder J.P. Crawford. Other players could be on the way once Lehigh Valley completes its postseason run.

Altherr was in the Phillies' opening day lineup and figured to get considerable playing time in right field after hitting 19 home runs and slugging .
