Phillies considering disabled list for Herrera

"He might be a DL [candidate]," Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said. "We're thinking a lot about it."

It is bad timing for Herrera. He is the midst of a career-best 17-game hitting streak. It is the longest hitting streak by a Phillies player since Raul Ibanez had an 18-game hitting streak in 2010. Herrera entered Thursday hitting .343 with 24 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 32 RBIs and a .967 OPS since June 1.

The Phillies selected the contract of Pedro Florimon on Thursday to help a shorthanded bench. He is a natural infielder, but he can play in the outfield.
