The Phillies need left-handed relievers in their bullpen, especially with Elvis Araujo now on the 15-day disabled list.
They tried to help fill that need Sunday by claiming lefty Ken Roberts off waivers from the Rockies, although because they didn’t have room on their 25-man roster, they immediately sent him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
With the calendar flipping to September on Tuesday, rosters will expand and Roberts will likely be one of the players the Phillies call up.
Roberts, 27, has pitched in just nine major league games in his career, all this season with the Rockies.
