The Phillies had to make a contract decision regarding Cody Asche by 8 p.m.
They did, designating Asche for assignment to make room for left-handed pitcher David Rollins. The Phillies claimed Rollins, 26, off waivers from the Rangers on Friday.
Rollins was drafted in 2011 by Toronto. In 2012, he was traded to the Astros in a deal that involved Ben Francisco and J.A. Happ. He was selected by Seattle in the 2014 Rule 5 Draft, then suspended in 2015 for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
