NOT SHOCKINGLY, the Phillies have made it official by activating Chase Utley, who went on the disabled list on June 23 due to inflammation in his right ankle.
He'll be available when they play in San Diego tonight. Manager Pete Mackanin reiterated his intention to play the veteran second baseman as quickly and often as possible.
"I'll probably play him [tonight]," he said. "We're going to mix him in, do as much as we can to get him in four days a week."
That probably means Utley will not only be used at second but also at first to give fellow veteran Ryan Howard a blow.
