Friday's 4-3 Phillies loss to St. Louis at Citizens Bank Park proved to be a night of opportunity. Some of it was wasted, while some of it was seized.
It was an opportunity for Adam Morgan to prove his worth on the day that the Phillies shut down their second young starter in three days. The lefthander turned in his best start since May. It also was an opportunity for the Phillies to grab a series-opening win against a team hunting for a playoff berth. They instead collapsed in the ninth and fell in the 11th.
Jeanmar Gomez blew his first save since July 18 when he allowed a game-tying, two-run homer to Jedd Gyorko with one out in the ninth.
