Joey Votto, frustrated and befuddled, lifted his bat into the air as if was readying to slam it into the dirt. The batter reconsidered, and instead lightly placed his bat on the ground after striking out. Aaron Nola - as he has so many times in his young career - left an opponent searching for answers.
The Phillies won, 4-3, Saturday night against the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park thanks to Nola and Tyler Goeddel.
Goeddel preserved the win by throwing out the Reds' Eugenio Suarez on a bang-bang play at the plate to complete a game-ending, flyball double play.
