Phillies activate Aaron Altherr at Daniel Nava's expense

Aaron Altherr returned Wednesday to the Phillies as the team swapped outfielders with hamstring injuries. Daniel Nava, a veteran bench bat the team had hoped to trade before the July 31 deadline, was placed on the disabled list.

The Phillies had been without Altherr since July 14. Until the Phillies deal Howie Kendrick, the outfield picture is somewhat crowded because Phillies manager Pete Mackanin must find at-bats for his young players. So Odubel Herrera, benched in Tuesday’s game, was the first to sit.
