Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera has been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for pitching prospect Franklyn Kilome. It’s the first acquisition made by the team at the deadline since the team’s rebuilding efforts began.
Andy Martino of SNY first reported the deal, and Jim Salisbury of NBCS Philadelphia has also confirmed the deal is done pending physicals.
The 32-year-old Cabrera projects to platoon with Scott Kingery and J.P. Crawford at shortstop while providing depth on the bench as a switch-hitter. In 98 games he’s hitting .277 with 18 home runs for New York, and enters free agency after this year.
