With the 48th overall pick in the MLB amateur draft the Philadelphia Phillies select second basemen Scott Kingery.
The Phillies took Kingery 48th overall out of the University of Arizona, where he hit .392 last season to lead the Pac-12. MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo said he thought Kingery could go in the mid-20s, so the pick represented solid value for the Phillies. Kingery hit leadoff for the Wildcats and Phillies scouting director, Johnny Almaraz, believes he will hit at the top of the order with the Phillies as well.
When the Phillies drafted high school shortstop Cornelius Randolph it was assumed he might move from shortstop to either second or third base.
