Phelps Quiets Offense as Pitching and Defense Struggles in Loss

The Phillies followed up their poor performance last night with an even poorer performance this afternoon, dropping the series finale to the Marlins 9-1.

It was ugly game all around for the Phillies, as the offense scored only one run on eight hits while the pitching gave up eight runs on 12 hits.

Dustin McGowan, who got the start for the injured Sean O’Sullivan, managed to only go 3.1 innings with four strikeouts, four walks, and four earned runs on three hits. Hector Neris, Justin De Fratus, Jake Diekman, and Jeanmar Gomez combined to pitch the remaining innings, striking out six while giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits.
