PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Catcher is a position of need in the Phillies’ organization these days. To help address that need, the Phillies plucked a talent out of their own backyard as they used their 14th round pick in this month’s MLB Draft on University of Pennsylvania catcher Austin Bossart.
“It was a little bit of a surprise for me,” Bossart told KYW Newsradio on Friday. “They had called me earlier that morning, telling me that they were interested, but I hadn’t really heard a lot from them throughout the year. So I really didn’t think I was on their radar too much.
