PHILADELPHIA -- Nine at-bats into his return from injury, Sean O'Sullivan put himself in harm's way again, thrusting his bare throwing hand in front of a ball put in play by Pirates pitcher A.J. Burnett in the second inning of Tuesday's game.
Without the help of his glove, O'Sullivan stabbed the ball out of the air and walked off the field for the end of the inning.
The ball was hit soft enough that O'Sullivan had time to react, but not soft enough that he could've opted to use his glove.
O'Sullivan's throwing hand was not affected by the catch as he came back in the third inning throwing in the high 80s and low 90s.
