Seventy years ago, the Athletics franchise chose to leave its home city of Philadelphia to seek greener pastures. They spent 13 unsuccessful seasons in Kansas City before heading even further west to Oakland. For a while, the Oakland Athletics were a success story. The Reggie Jackson-led teams of the ‘70s won three straight World Series, and the Bash Brothers brought them another title in 1990.
While they haven’t raised any trophies since then, the A’s still found some success over the years. The “Moneyball” teams were fun, and they were in playoff contention as recently as 2021.
