LOS ANGELES - Even though the Phillies need a starting pitcher for Saturday's game in San Francisco, Aaron Nola's major-league debut will not come until after the all-star break next week.
Nola, the organization's top pitching prospect, was not considered an option to start Saturday, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Tuesday. The Phillies created the rotation opening by outrighting struggling righthander Sean O'Sullivan off the 40-man roster after a 10-7 loss to the Dodgers on Monday night.
David Buchanan, pulled after only 40 pitches of his Tuesday start with triple-A Lehigh Valley, is the likeliest candidate to next rejoin the rotation.
