Nola fans 9 in 6 shutout innings, Phillies beat Brewers

PHILADELPHIA -- Aaron Nola pitched six scoreless innings and matched his career high with nine strikeouts and the Philadelphia Phillies backed him with three home runs Sunday in an 8-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Makiel Franco homered in the third, then Jimmy Paredes and Cameron Rupp hit back-to-back shots during a five-run fifth.

Nola (5-4), who turned 23 on Saturday, maneuvered out of several jams. The Brewers stranded 10 runners against him, including seven in scoring position.

Nola gave up eight hits and left with a 2.
