The Philadelphia Phillies received bad news Wednesday regarding right-hander Charlie Morton, who will have surgery on his torn left hamstring and miss the remainder of the season.
While the team made no official announcement, Triple-A Lehigh Valley left-hander Adam Morgan is expected to take Morton's spot in the rotation for the time being and start against the Indians on Friday.
The injury to Morton raised discussion as to a timetable for right-hander Mark Appel, the two-time first-round draft pick who came to the Phillies from Houston last winter in the Ken Giles deal.
