Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Raúl Ibañez is joining Major League Baseball as a new senior vice president of on-field operations, it was announced Monday.
Ibañez, as noted by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, will “focus on issues pertaining to rules, equipment and on-field technology.”
Since retiring after the 2014 season, Ibañez has flirted with the idea of managing, but never actually returned to the dugout. However, he’s worked as a studio analyst with both FS1 and ESPN, and prior to this role, had been a special assistant to the general manager with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
