PHOENIX - While he was with the Phillies and publicly pleading for a new home, Jonathan Papelbon maintained that he didn't check other teams' box scores to monitor closers around the majors. But if did so over the last two weeks, he might have come away a tad jealous of a former teammate.
The resurgent Phillies have kept Papelbon's successor extremely busy. In only his first 12 games as the team's closer, Ken Giles was afforded six save opportunities. Papelbon, conversely, entered in save situations a mere 17 times over 100 games before he was traded to the Washington Nationals on July 28.
