LAKELAND, Fla. - There were times over the last four seasons, Cedric Hunter said, when he questioned his future in baseball. Hunter spent the last four seasons in minor-league outposts such as Columbus, Memphis and Akron.
Chances appeared bleak that his major-league career would extend past the six at-bats he had in 2011. He wondered if the game was passing him by.
"As players, we all go through that stage," Hunter said. "And I felt like I needed to go through that to bounce back and motivate myself to get here."
Here is spring training with the Phillies, and there is a chance that Hunter could leave on the 25-man roster.
