The Red Sox entered tonight’s game 34-34. They’ve been hovering around, or exactly at, the .500 mark for much of this season. Tonight the Beantown Nine knew they’d depart from it. The only question was in which direction they’d go.
Kyle Schwarber started the game with a single that went straight between shortstop David Hamilton and second baseman Enmanuel Valdez, both of whom seemed to think the other would get it. Sox hurler Tanner Houck shrugged off the miscue and navigated his way out of the inning with a pair of ground balls and a strikeout of Nick Castellanos on a low and away slider.
