Hector Neris blows another save as Phillies fall to Mets

As foul balls go, this one was loud. Ominous, too.

Hector Neris hasn’t pitched many clean ninth innings for the Phillies lately. So when the closer allowed a long foul ball down the right-field line by New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto, after giving up a one-out single to Wilmer Flores, it didn’t bode well in a one-run game Friday night.

Sure enough, two pitches later, Conforto clocked a 95-mph sinker into the bleachers in right-center field, and Neris had blown his second save in six days.

Michael Conforto hits a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to lift the Mets over the Phillies on Friday.
