CLEARWATER, Fla. - After the Phillies fired Charlie Manuel in 2013, he said, two Philadelphia radio stations offered him regular spots analyzing the Phillies.
Manuel turned them down.
"I didn't want to comment on Phillies teams, the managers and coaches," Manuel said. "That was none of my business."
The Phillies consider theirs to be a family business. Kinfolk tend to linger.
Manuel had managed the Phillies for the previous eight-plus years when he declined the chance to turn radio head. He'd piloted a golden era that included five straight division titles, two National League pennants and a World Series championship .
