Cole Hamels threw his between-start bullpen session and went through a workout Tuesday in Baltimore. A day later, the pitcher felt something in his hamstring, according to Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg.
On Thursday, the Phillies' ace and top trade chip was scratched from his scheduled start Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals with what the team called a mild right hamstring strain. It was not known whether the 31-year-old lefthander would miss just the one start or need a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
"He didn't feel like it was a long-term thing," Sandberg said. "The fact that it showed up 24 hours later, he said [it is] somewhat minimal.
