I was somewhat excited to tune in to the Phillies’ Grapefruit League game on Tuesday afternoon. (I was less excited when I learned that it was exclusively being streamed online.) The main reason for my excitement: Zack Wheeler was making his second start of the Spring, and I wanted to see how he looked.
Unfortunately, he didn’t look good. At all.
After retiring the first five Yankees batters, Wheeler began giving up hits and never stopped. He allowed five straight singles in the second inning, leading to three runs. He came back out for the third, and after giving up three straight hits to start the inning, his day was over.
