PHILADELPHIA -- Freddy Galvis on Wednesday helped the Aguilas del Zulia win the Venezuelan Winter League title for the first time in 17 years.
Galvis hit .183 (11-for-60) with one home run, four RBIs and a .570 OPS in 15 regular-season games for Zulia, but he hit .305 (18-for-59) with five RBIs and a .766 OPS in 14 postseason games. Galvis, 27, will be the Phillies' Opening Day shortstop, but he could be pressed in the season by Triple-A Lehigh Valley shortstop J.P. Crawford, who is the Phils' top prospect.
Zulia's general manager is Luis Amaro, who is the brother of former Philadelphia general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.
