During this upcoming offseason, we here at TGP will periodically take a look at some free agents that make sense for the Philadelphia Phillies. We’ll try to factor in cost, age, and position as well as overall fit on the roster.
We will also factor in effect on the competitive balance tax, but it’s hard to gauge those numbers concretely before arbitration salaries are settled. As it stands right now, the Phillies will have an estimated payroll of around $241M for 2025, which is exactly at the first luxury tax threshold. Going at least $40M over that number will put the Phillies in the bracket that moves your first-round draft selection back ten slots.
