There was a theme to the Phillies offseason. The four big leaguers acquired, Jordan Romano, Max Kepler, Jesús Luzardo and Joe Ross, all spent time on the injured list in 2024. The three free agents, Romano, Kepler and Ross, are all on one-year deals. Luzardo, who was acquired via trade with the Miami Marlins, has two years of club control.
The Phillies essentially chose to take big risks to maintain payroll flexibility. It makes sense if you are of the opinion that the 2025 Phillies, before any new acquisitions were made, are at least a playoff team.
Did the Phillies do enough?
