WASHINGTON -- The Phillies never really considered Enyel De Los Santos to take Ben Lively's spot in the rotation Tuesday in Miami.
De Los Santos, 22, is short on experience and not on the 40-man roster.
But he is forcing the issue. De Los Santos is 3-0 with a 1.07 ERA in five starts with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He pitched six scoreless innings in tough conditions Friday against Rochester. He allowed three hits and five walks and struck out eight. He struck out 25 and walked six in 19 1/3 innings in his first four starts.
