After an exciting, walk-off win on Saturday, the Phillies followed it up with perhaps their worst effort of the season. They hit poorly, the defense was abysmal, and Zack Wheeler (with some help from his defense) imploded in the sixth inning. The Pirates, led by Andrew McCutchen, took full advantage, earning a 9-2 win over the Phils to salvage a split of the four-game series.
With Wheeler matched up against veteran mediocrity Mitch Keller, it felt like a prime opportunity for the Phillies to earn their third straight series win. But through the first four innings, their only run came courtesy of Trea Turner’s long awaited first home run of the season.
