Phillies' struggling second baseman Chase Utley will begin a rehab assignment at this afternoon's Lehigh Valley IronPigs game at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, officials said.
The first pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. when the IronPigs face the Norfolk Tides.
Utley, one of the most popular Phillies in franchise history, is returning from an ankle inflammation injury that sidelined him for over a month. He was batting .179 with four homers and 25 RBIs in 65 games prior to being shut down.
Utley's only other rehab assignment with the IronPigs was on June 26, 2012, when he homered and went 2-for-5 in a 10-3 rout of the Rochester Red Wings.
