ST. LOUIS — Cesar Hernandez was conspicuously absent from the Phillies’ lineup Saturday afternoon, just the third time all season that Pete Mackanin did not write Hernandez’s name atop the batting order. The reason: Hernandez injured his side when making a throw Friday night.
It is not clear how serious the injury is, but abdominal ailments are treated with an abundance of caution. They typically require a trip to the disabled list.
“He felt something in his side,” Mackanin said. The manager downplayed it.
Andres Blanco started Saturday at second base. The Phillies have Ty Kelly, a reserve infielder, who could man second base.
