Carlos Estevez was acquired at the trade deadline to provide the team’s bullpen with a little more stability, a little more certainty than what they were receiving at the time from Seranthony Dominguez and Gregory Soto.
“It’s interesting to be in our room when we have those types of conversations,” [Dave] Dombrowski said. “Because the reality comes down to this for me: We want the best guy to give us a chance to win this year. So there might have been some guys that maybe we could have gotten with more (club) control but we didn’t think they were as good a pitcher to win in the postseason.
