There is no doubt Juan Soto is the prize of this winter’s Hot Stove, and he perfectly meets the Phillies’ need for a young, proven, patient, power-hitting outfielder.
He will not come cheaply.
It’s widely assumed that, while Soto will not receive a Shohei Ohtani contract (10 years, $700 million) in terms of total value, he’ll easily sail past the 12-year, $426 million extension Mike Trout signed back in 2019, and the $360 million, nine-year deal his teammate, Aaron Judge, inked with the Yankees last season.
We’re looking at a 12 or 13-year deal for the 26-year-old future Hall of Famer that will certainly cross the $500 million threshold, and could perhaps land above $600 million.
