PHILADELPHIA -- Larry Bowa has put his fate into the hands of the Phillies front office.
The team announced Friday that Pete Mackanin will not return next season as manager. Phillies general manager Matt Klentak told his coaches that the new manager will hire his staff. They are welcome to reapply for their jobs, but there is no guarantee they will get them. In the meantime, the coaches are free to look elsewhere for employment.
But Bowa, 71, wants to remain in the organization in some capacity. He has spent 33 of his 52 years in professional baseball with the Phillies.
