Biddle removed from Phillies' 40-man roster

Left-hander Jesse Biddle, a graduate of Germantown Friends School, was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Friday.

The 24-year-old Biddle underwent Tommy John surgery in October after going 9-6 with a 4.95 ERA in 24 combined starts between double-A Reading and triple-A Lehigh Valley.

According to the Phillies, to fill Biddle's spot on the 40-man roster, the Phillies claimed left-hander Bobby LaFromboise off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

LaFromboise, 29, appeared in 11 major league games last season for the Pittsburgh Pirates and posted a 1.13 ERA, allowing one earned run in 8.
