Pete Mackanin sat behind his desk Sunday in the visiting managers' office at Miller Park and recounted another Phillies loss in Milwaukee. His offense was listless. His starting pitcher was shelled.
The interim manager then pointed to the performance of his bullpen. The Phillies used three relievers on Sunday who pieced together 31/3 scoreless innings to keep the game manageable after Aaron Harang's early exit. Adam Loewen, Hector Neris, and Cesar Jimenez allowed just one hit.
"I saw some good things from the bullpen," Mackanin said. "There's not a whole lot else to brag about."
The bullpen has been a bright spot during the team's recent rough stretch.
