A meteoric season for right-hander Andrew Painter has been rewarded with the top honor for a Phillies prospect.
The 19-year-old power pitcher was named a Paul Owens Award winner, the club announced on Thursday, honoring Painter as the best minor-league pitcher in the Philadelphia system for the 2022 season. First baseman Darick Hall was selected as the Paul Owens Award recipient for the organization’s top position player in the minors.
Painter, a 2021 first-round pick, dazzled in his first full season as a professional. He began the year in Low-A Clearwater before earning a promotion to High-A Jersey Shore in June, then moved up to Double-A Reading in August.
