Former Phillies catcher Andrew Knapp will sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates and be the team’s backup catcher, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Roberto Perez is likely to be the Pirates’ starting catcher.
Knapp, 30, was in camp with the Cincinnati Reds this spring on a minor league deal. He exercised the opt out in his contract and found a landing spot in Pittsburgh.
