In Phillies news today, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher A.J. Burnett will not miss a start with a hernia, as he should be able to pitch through the pain for his scheduled start on Wednesday.
According to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia, "assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said Burnett had a "small inguinal hernia." Burnett was treated with an anti-inflammatory injection and the Phillies say he's OK to pitch."
Proefrock stated that the hernia "can be managed and he can pitch with it," putting fears to rest that the Philadelphia Phillies' big free agent acquisition of the offseason would land on the disabled list.
Burnett complained of pain in his groin during his last start, leading to the discovery of the hernia. He is currently 0-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three starts. He has walked twelve batters in his last two outings.
If Burnett would have been unable to pitch, Triple-A Lehigh Valley starting pitcher David Buchanan (1-0, 1.50 ERA) would have been the likely spot starter.
