In this look into Phillies trade rumors and news, the Philadelphia Phillies might be very hestitant about pulling the trigger on a Cole Hamels trade before the July 31st non-waiver deadline.
Per Jeff Todd of MLB Trade Rumors (via information obtained from ESPN's Jim Bowden), "one player whose trade attention would potentially rise if (Tampa Bay Rays ace David) Price stays put is Cole Hamels of the Phillies, who of course has plenty of value regardless. Bowden says that GMs around the league get the sense that Philadelphia will be very hesitant to move their star lefty, however."
It's easy to see why the Phillies aren't sure. Hamels remains one of the most consistent producers on the team in lieu of what has been a tough first half to 2014.
With four more years on his contract, he could still conceivably be a cornerstone piece for the rotation in any rebuilding project. His trade value as a dominant lefty, however, could raise his asking price so much that the Phillies are forced to at least listen - especially if Price remains in St. Petersburg.
