In tonight's Phillies news update, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley currently has a significant lead in the All-Star balloting for second base in the National League.
Per Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, "Major League Baseball released its first voting update for the National League All-Star team on Wednesday, and Utley has a commanding lead at second base. He has 509,390 votes, with Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon trailing significantly at 304,258 votes."
This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone that has been following Utley's torrid start to the 2014 MLB season. The beloved infielder is hitting .333 so far with four home runs, three triples, 21 doubles, and 25 RBIs.
According to Zolecki, "his .945 OPS in plate appearances as a second baseman is first in the league, with Pittsburgh's Neil Walker a distant second at .818."
Any way you shake it, Utley has been the best second baseman in the National League the first two months of the season - with no doubts about it.
