You can’t win them all every single month of every single baseball season, and these next three guys are living proof of that. Here’s our list of 3 Philadelphia Phillies Players Who Have Been A Disappointment So Far In 2015.
2B Chase Utley
This is a hard one, because Utley has been gutting through a right ankle problems since an initial injury during offseason workouts back in January. The Phillies finally shelved him a few days ago with what's being termed as right ankle inflammation, so hopefully his season-long slump -- to the tune of a .179 batting average in 218 at-bats -- will be a thing of the past when Philly's beloved son returns to action.
C Carlos Ruiz
Ruiz entered 2014 with a career .271 batting average and .357 on-base percentage. He's fallen far short of those benchmarks this season, hitting just .219 with a .285 OBP, no home runs and only six doubles in 51 games played.
Ruiz’s June performance has been even more troubling, as he's hitting .125 (5-for-40) with no extra base hits on the month -- enough to (at least, temporarily) lose his starting spot to Cameron Rupp.
RHP Jerome Williams
The back-end starter was placed on the disabled list back on June 17th with a strained left hamstring, but NBC Sports' Aaron Gleeman doesn't believe the team is missing much with him out of the rotation:
Williams has been terrible this season, posting a 6.43 ERA in 14 starts and allowing opponents to hit .331 off him after signing with the Phillies for $2.5 million.
Last season Williams had a 2.83 ERA in nine starts for the Phillies, which convinced them to bring him back this year, but he’s got a lifetime 4.55 ERA through age 33 and has posted an ERA under 4.00 just once since 2004.
Williams is the definition of a journeyman starter, but that still doesn't excuse the abject lack of consistency he's brought to the table so far in 2015.
