The 2019 NHL Awards were on Wednesday evening, and while only one former Philadelphia Flyer was actually nominated for an award, that doesn’t mean others didn’t obtain votes in different categories. Some were able to finish Top-10 in voting while others barely cracked the Top-50.
Starting off with the lone victor, former Flyer and Nashville Predators forward Wayne Simmonds won the 2019 Mark Messier Leadership Award. This honor is given to a player “who exemplifies great leadership qualities on and off of the ice and who plays a leading role in his community growing the game of hockey.
