It might be too early to say, but Valtteri Filppula appears to be just what the Flyers needed – especially Sean Couturier.
The Flyers acquired the 32-year-old veteran center at the trade deadline last week, along with a fourth-round pick and a seventh-round pick, for 39-year-old defenseman Mark Streit. On paper, the results seem solid, if not astounding.
Filppula has a goal, an assist, is a minus-1 in his three games as a Flyer. He has, however, won 52.6 percent of his faceoffs. He has also anchored the second line and been another option on penalty kills and power plays for coach Dave Hakstol.
