After being eliminated by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs last season, the Philadelphia Flyers front office went into the offseason knowing they had to make improvements.
General Manager Ron Hextall did just that when he inked forward James van Riemsdyk to a five year deal back in July. The Flyers struggled with secondary scoring throughout the entire 2017-18 campaign, and van Riemsdyk’s presence should help with that need.
Minus that move, the team didn’t do a whole lot in the offseason. They did sign defenseman Christian Folin to a one year contract to add depth on the defense, but Folin is no where near as big addition compared to JvR.
