It's no secret that sports events in Philadelphia generate lots of tax revenue, from ticket taxes to sales taxes on food and beverages to hotel taxes on rooms booked by out-of-town guests. There's also the wage tax that gets assessed to players on pro teams that visit the city.
It's not always easy to figure out just how much money goes into city coffers from those levies, especially when it comes to sales and wage taxes. But the city controller's office does have an idea of how much revenue is generated from ticket taxes - officially called the Amusement Tax in Philadelphia's budget.
