The mascot, the myth, the legend Gritty. From his birth, the beloved orange...creature was a hit after 24 hours of hatred and terror. It all started with a tweet threatening the Penguins mascot Iceburgh to “Sleep with one eye open, bird,” and we jumped right onboard with Gritty’s antics.
Highlights from Gritty’s debut year range from national television, tossing popcorn all over visiting fans, and streaking naked during the Stadium Series (Stay salty, Bailey). We now embrace this mascot in true Philadelphian style: on shirts, memes, merchandise, and politics.
