Philadelphia Flyers Prospect Wins Beanpot

Merrick Madsen was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 6th round of the 2013 NHL Entry draft.

The 21-year-old goaltender has posted 2.25 GAA and .916 SV% this season in 25 games played for the Crimson.

General Manager Ron Hextall will need to make a decision on the big 6’5 190 pound goaltender following his season at Harvard. After spending three seasons Madsen could turn pro and play for the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms or go back to the Crimson for his senior year and become a free agent after the year.

With both Michal Neuvirth and Steve Mason free agents this summer, Philadelphia could look to bring in one of Alex Lyon or Anthony Stolarz to backup in the NHL next season, leaving a spot in Lehigh.
